There's still a world worth fighting for.
Every time I feel movement in my womb, I’m reminded of the kind of world my child will enter.
A world where most of America voted for a manipulative political leader hellbent on returning our beloved country to a time where women and racial minorities were treated like domesticated animals, only valued for their labor.
A world where lost politicians have allowed personal benefit and profit to corrupt themselves and a governance system once rooted in public service and moral integrity.
A world where bitterness and self-entitlement have convinced people they have a right over a stranger’s autonomy.
Our country and State are headed in a repressive direction, but this isn’t unfamiliar territory. Since the birth of time, humans have struggled over the right to exist and self-actualize. As our ancestors did in the 1860s, as our grandparents did in the 1950s, and as we did in the late 2010s, we will fight to retain and advance our independence.
It’s easy to become disillusioned and frustrated with our political leaders, who are immune to caring about our concerns and well-being, but we can’t entertain the apathy or resentment that may be brewing inside us.
Don’t you dare let the successes of technocratic elites and misogynists allow despair to pollute our motivations and welcome inaction.
Soon, my child will kick its last kick and enter the world.
Let’s recharge, chart a new path forward, and continue pushing for a world worth living and fighting for.
